Shrub Bamboos

Shrub bamboos are a group of moderate sized bamboo not usually any taller than 16 feet. A few may well reach 18 but not often. Included would be the shade dwelling Japanese bamboo with their larger leaves and the full sun bamboos such as the Bambusa's. The temperate species being Pleioblastus, Pseudosasa and Semiarundinaria. The subtropical would be the Bambusa's. In terms of bamboo care ample summer water again helps to look their best. Pseudosasa japonica in our area has proven to be quite drought tolerant for such a large leafed bamboo even tolerating quite allot of sun. From China and Japan, most are runners the exception are the Bambusa's.
